Pick Everard is a leading multi-disciplinary property, construction, and infrastructure consultancy, with a 600-strong team supporting clients from its 15 offices throughout the country – including an office in Nottingham.
The firm has been going from strength to strength, working on high-profile national projects in both the public and private sectors, and is renowned for cutting-edge sustainable design, delivered through cost-effective and efficient project management. Established in 1866, the firm has an award-winning portfolio that covers major retail development, city centre and urban regeneration, commercial and leisure projects.
One such major project being undertaken by the firm is the designs for four new prisons for the Ministry of Justice, which was awarded in late 2020. As well as this, the firm is working with many of the UK’s leading educational institutions, healthcare providers and a wide range of local authorities and blue light services and holds positions on many of the UK construction sector’s major frameworks.
Pick Everard is particularly passionate about ensuring that students – the industry leaders of tomorrow – have the best possible learning environments to develop their skills within. As well as this, the support of the UK’s healthcare provision, particularly the NHS is a key focus.
A key scheme for Nottingham Trent University demonstrates this commitment to delivering the highest quality education and healthcare facilities together, with Pick Everard providing architecture, interior design and principal design services from concept to completion.
Set in the university’s Clifton campus, the renovation of existing NTU buildings and the completion of a new building will serve as a base for the Institute of Health & Allied Professions, which offers a range of specialist courses such as adult and mental health nursing and paramedic science. The whole facility is focused on equipping the healthcare providers of the future with the knowledge and hands-on skills required for modern healthcare.
One floor of this 34,000 sq ft building allows healthcare students to train in realistic simulated healthcare environments, including hospital wards, consultation and counselling rooms, and a flat for home and emergency care scenarios. The settings also feature lifelike mannequins to give students the experience of working with men, women, and children with a variety of industries.
A further two floors provide office and flexible teaching space to allow for creative learning approaches, with the whole facility focussed around equipping future healthcare providers with the knowledge and hands-on skills required for modern healthcare.
Pick Everard is also working on the regeneration taking place on the southern side of Nottingham city centre, with work starting last year to transform existing highways into new green, pedestrian-friendly public space.
The multi-million-pound redevelopment will see the conversion of existing infrastructure into open public realm spaces and will drastically improve the city centre once completed, linking in with adjoining schemes for a new Broadmarsh car park and bus station, Central Library, Nottingham Castle visitor experience and Nottingham College City Hub.
The work brings forth the most significant changes to a city centre road layout for 15 years, reducing the number of traffic lanes and improving pedestrian and cycle routes from the south of the city with upgraded streets, safer junctions and better pedestrian flow areas.
The public realm space will feature both hard and soft landscaping along with feature lighting and outdoor socialising space for public use, and will create an open, vibrant, welcoming space to the city for anyone arriving by bus, tram, train, car, or on foot.
Following the initial appointment to provide cost consultancy, project management and lead designer roles, Pick Everard was appointed to provide a wider range of services for the scheme, including landscape architecture, civil and structural engineering, and mechanical and engineering services. The work is being delivered via Perfect Circle’s unique collaboration – a joint venture between Pick Everard, AECOM and Gleeds.
